Rothenberg's Building Closure

February 22, 2023

Thanks to the hard work by our district facilities team, local and national contractors and suppliers and inspectors, Rothenberg is ready to reopen on Monday, February 27, 2023.

To prepare for Monday, all students will stay home and participate in asynchronous learning, meaning students will do school work and complete homework assignments independently and virtually at home on Friday, February, 24, 2023. Teachers and staff will use Friday to retrieve instructional support materials from their temporary classrooms to take back to their respective classrooms and office areas at Rothenberg. On Monday, February 27, please plan to arrive and depart from Rothenberg as we did prior to this incident - walkers will walk, car riders will drop off and pick up as normal, and bus riders will return to their normal routes.

We are very excited to have everyone back in our building, and thankful to the entire team that made this possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office at 513-363-5720 during normal office hours.

February 10, 2023

We now know the extent of the damage at Rothenberg’s building is extensive. Due to the flooding, key components of Rothenberg’s HVAC and electrical systems need to be replaced. The district is working with national, regional and local vendors to order, install, test and inspect all building repairs. This is an extensive process, and it is unclear how long Rothenberg’s building will be closed.

However, we do know that remaining remote is not an effective option to ensure Rothenberg students continue progressing in their education. As such, beginning next week, Rothenberg’s neighbor-schools, Rising Stars at Vine and South Avondale, who have adequate space, are opening their doors to give Rothenberg students and staff a temporary home while their building is repaired. To best support all families, students, teachers and staff, please see below for more detailed information.

CPS appreciates everyone's patience and cooperation as we make this adjustment, and thank Principal Battle, Principal Simmons, Principal Smith and their staff for working together to support our students’ needs.
